Sib. 7.5: Steinberg Generic ASIO vs. ASIO4All Posted by Patrick O'Keefe - 04 Apr 04:31PM Hide picture I just noticed that Sibelius shows a "Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver" in my list of Audio Interfaces. I have no idea where it came from but Google says it's from Steinberg so maybe it came along with a certain Steinberg notation product I've installed.I have no pressing need for low latency at the moment but I use ASIO4All anyway. (I've heard it has a low cycle impact.) Is there any particular reason to choose one of these drivers over the other? I haven't found a comparison of the two (but I haven't looked very hard).-- Patrick O'KeefeSib 7.5, GPO4, NotePerformer, lots of EWQL stuff Win10 x64 Pro Intel i7-4771, 3.50Ghz, 16GB RAM Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.5: Steinberg Generic ASIO vs. ASIO4All Posted by Mike Lyons - 04 Apr 07:27PM Hide picture TBH, i find the Steinberg asio to be a bit difficult. I too prefer to use ASIO4ALL, both with Sibelius and Dorico. For one thing, it allows me to run Reaper (using my soundcard / midi controller driver), Sibelius and Dorico all simultaneously, with low latency. The Steinberg driver somehow has a way of "hijacking" the application (for lack of a better word). -- Peter Rooswww.summeroflovemusic.comIMDb: www.imdb.com/name/nm2039241 Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.5: Steinberg Generic ASIO vs. ASIO4All Posted by Bob Zawalich - 04 Apr 08:41PM Hide picture >Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver is the driver that is installed by Dorico. This may be only me (in Windows 10), but I have found that if I have the Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver installed, Sibelius plugins fail in unexpected ways. I was having weird results for a while after installing Dorico and I eventually determined that weirdness happened if that driver was being used by Sibelius. So I switched to another ASIO driver, and that worked fine until something I did caused Sibelius to use the Steinberg driver again.I went to some effort to uninstall it, and have not had those problems since. This may be a random, one-time event, but since I did not need the driver, I just dumped it.-- BobAn experienced user of Sibelius. Steinberg Asio Driver Windows 10
Have you tried it with a different driver other than ASIO? Over the years I've occasionally had issues with an application not working with an ASIO driver and the problem was usually solved by switching to a different driver and NOT using ASIO with that particular program. (Funnily enough, Adobe Audition is one that I had trouble with using the ASIO with a Behringer interface) But switching to MME or some other driver solved the problem.I use Sound Forge 11, so I can't say if the same option is there for your version, but mine has an option for "Windows Classic Wave Driver" that recognizes and works fine with both my M-Audio and Behringer interfaces. You should try this if you haven't already.
I searched the forum and read different topics regarding asio and realtek, but I'm 99% convinced it's windows 11. I've watched every YouTube video possible on how to delete/disable the the Realtek audio driver. While it can be deleted, it's only temporary. The second you restart or shut down the computer, the Realtek driver comes back. This wouldn't be an issue if it didn't freeze cakewalk and other vst's(ezdrummer) and I have to re start the computer constantly. Asio is the most steady driver, and I try to use that most often, especially if I'm using ezd in standalone mode. The most frustrating thing is, I can go on my old laptop with windows 10 and don't have any issues with the audio drivers. I contacted hp technical support and that was like talking to a brick wall. I guess I'm curious if anyone else had these issues with windows 11. The biggest thing for me is having the lowest latency possible. I run my roland drums into my laptop for ezdrummer, so I need the lowest latency possible, which is by using the asio driver.
I have a behringer umc22, but I rarely use it. I have no need to use it for cake walk or ezdrummer as my e drums plug directly into my laptop via usb. Maybe it's just my laptop, but it is impossible to delete the Realtek audio driver. I've deleted it from the device Manger about 100 times now and it just comes back. Also, I did go into my bios settings and there is no option to turn off the mother board sound, but I really wouldn't wanna do that as then I woukd have no sound at all. Also, asio is the only driver that will give me low latency. Wasapi is around 10ms and that is unacceptable for drums, especially live. Asio is 1.5ms. That's a pretty significant difference
